Found this at an estate sale and it pulled me right in. Marked G. Davis 12/50 Mystic Landscape. On the back it says Christmas 1966. I went to go pay and the woman said--oh wait, my brother drew that, would you like to meet him?
Turns out his name is Gary Davis, an Arts grad from UNL who presented this to his parents as a Christmas gift in 1966. After graduation he moved to the Chicago area where he taught art for 35 years in the public school system. Retired now but still teaches pottery to the local high schoolers on occasion. He told me that this was his interpretation of those pretty landscapes that you come across....the ones with the rolling waves and big, fluffy clouds for days. He also mentioned that this was marked 12/50, but he really only did maybe 30 of them. Was also nice enough to write the attached note for me so I would not forget! Not sure what I enjoy more--the pic or meeting the artist 47 years after it was created!
