There are a ton of fake/repro/reprinted Marilyn Monroe "Golden Dreams" calendars out there on the market. This is NOT one of them. This is the real deal (as best I can determine in my research).

From what I understand, it is genuine first edition because:

~ There is no notation by MM's hip reading "Posed by Marilyn Monroe" (she was barely known in 1953). That was added later.

~ Later issues did not have "Made in U.S.A. on the photo (this one has it printed on the lower right edge).

~ 1953 was one of the earliest years the photo was used on calendars.

Also helping to date & confirm the age is the advertising, which uses an old-style telephone # (Riceville 2622).

This particular calendar was found tucked away in my family's retail store in a nearby small town in 1976 when we closed up the business. Found with it was another 1955 calendar that featured Lili St. Cyr posing on a tiger-skin rug! Men of a certain age know that name ~ she was a well-known burley-q star who also started the first large scale mail order biz for.... um, 'erotic' lingere.

Ol' Elmer sure knew how to pick the subjects for his annual calendars!

I substituted a photo to show what is underneath the tipped-in shot ~ another indicator of the vintage nature. Repro calendars have no printing beneath the image and this one has the lines for noting phone numbers and birthdays (?!).

And this is why we are proud Americans with troops abroad. It is for the millions of Marilyn Monroe's that we all know and love.
