I am collecting a set of these pieces designed by Gerald Gulotta and Jack Prince. There is plenty of information on Gerald Gulotta on the net but it is difficult to find information about Jack Prince. I'd like to hear from anyone who might know more about this New York designer!
The colours of the Chromatics pieces are an invention of Jack Prince. The range was in ten tones of gold-brown, pink-lavender or grey-beige.
I've come across a series of designs that Jack Prince did for Block ceramics. The ceramics were produced by Bernarda Portugal, Langenthal in Switzerland and of course by Arzberg in (West) Germany in the seventies: the "Panton era". Harmony Sextet is a great series and there is another Transition Evolution that is interesting too.
But I have a preference for "1000 Chromatics".

I've been looking for more information on Jack Prince. I think he may have had a fabric design business in the 70's in New York - certainly someone by that name did work for Liberty's. Perhaps he branched out into ceramics with Gerald Gulotta?
The bowls I have here can be stacked with the saucers for the cups I have already shown. I note the concave and convex edges created by these pieces reflect the design of the glasses and cups. Gulotta's shapes were quite clever. I have seen some of the patent applications he made for his designs and they show a partnership between Gulotta and the Block family going back to 1966.

Aren't the colours just wonderful!? .....:-)
Many thanks Bellin and inky! I agree about the choice of colour combos. They could well have been planning 1000 different colour combinations! Remember those cards you used to get for paints at the hardware stores? These days it's all computerised.
YES!!.. that's what it reminds me of!....:-)

I am not sure what you have been able to find out about Jack Prince, but he was indeed a very talented textile designer. He and my mother were young textile designers together in the 50s in NYC. Later he had his own studio, Jack Prince Studios. In the early 80s he branched out and did a home line that included sheets and towels and I presume you beautiful dinnerware. I don't think it was a great success. I believe it was called Aerobics by Jack Prince, but I am not completely sure.
Hi POPART!
Thank you for these comments! I have not been able to find out much about Jack Prince.
