Can anyone help us out? My wife was told her train was pre-war....is there a engine stamp somewhere? It does appear to have copper throughout underneath if that helps. She was told it was worth 2,200 in pristine shape. Obviously needs restored. Any help would be much appreciated. Is it considered a lionel?

ok...this looks like a marx. I have seen them from $50 to one on e-bay right now for $1400, in that shape.....now that I look at it...thats it isnt it?

Marx has made alot of stuff that doesnt say Marx on it anywhere....you may not find anything, but I have seen these before....they also came in red....go to e-bay and type in Marx Commadore Vanderbilt and you will find a whole bunch of them. Lionel also made them, but i do not believe this one is a lionel. in the box in "like new" condition I dont think it would bring THAT much ($2000)....times have changed....things just arent selling like they use too. I have 37 engines. almost all lionel....some I paid $200 for 4 yrs ago and would be lucky to get $150 of that back now. if your handy at all....all the parts and decals and stuff for that restoration are available. set it up, run it for the kids...grandkids...whatever, if you have the boxes...double the value. the box is harder to come by then the train
