From what I can gather so far, this is a pretty rare fan, even in it's current (very rough) condition. It is a Century, Model 51, Frame S2-9, serial number 91560 desk fan made by Century Electric Co. in 1914. The motor is free and I believe it works, but the cord was replaced somewhere along the way and has since been severed. So, I'm going to track down a correct cord and go through the motor before I try to put any power to it. It's also missing the back cover for the motor, which could be pretty difficult to find. Century only produced fans between 1908 and 1923, and they never were extremely popular, so finding NOS or correct repro parts is going to be tough.
PS.. If y'all know anyone with the parts for this fan laying around, please let me know!! LOL
Thanks for the love Kerry and BELLIN68!!
Thank you officialfuel!!
Thanks RonM!!
These fans always look great -- that motor looks huge! Good luck with the parts...
Thanks, trunkman. No kidding, the motor is huge. And I'll need all the luck I can get to track down parts for this obscure thing!! LOL
Thank you trgrubaugh, AmberRose, and bratjdd!!
I've found out that the piece that is missing from the back is the transmission cap, and I may have found somebody that can get me a repro cap and cloth cord to kick off my restoration!
I just discovered parts to one. I was looking up info to ebay this item. I would be willing to give you a chance to make a FARE offer first.
Whatever ended up happening?
I'm wondering what the final outcome is too. I have one nearly identical to it that I just started restoring today. It's complete but needs to be rewired. Will be a fun little project.
