This is, I think a hat pin holder I picked up in an auction in Texas. I never knew what a hat pin holder was until I saw this. It is very beautiful and shines very bright which you probably can't tell in this photograph. I have researched hat pin holders but have not seen one as white as this one is. If someone would like to let me know anything about this item please respond.
Thanks
I was waiting on someone who might know more than me to comment....
Since nobody has---- and even though I am far from an authority on the reproduced / contemporary hatpin holders---- I will post a few remarks.
Northwood marked nearly all their glass with the underlined "N" in a circle. While one cannot count upon it being present, even on period glass, I am betting it is not on your item. (I think your hatpin holder is a recently produced item, likely not even using the original molds.)
Northwood made custard glass, which usually glowed under a blacklight. Your item appears too white to be period custard glass, though.
Wish I could tell you what company likely produced your item, but I cannot.
HI,
I read crazy4carnival above comments. Northwood marked nearly all their glass with an "N". This may not be completely right. I have a "Grape&Cable HatPin Holder". It is not signed.
Even after that, I looked at the shown white hatpin holder. Immediately I decided it is not Northwood. The giveaway is the Six (6) points where the HatPins are inserted do not have the same shape as the Northwood. I have seen many of the hatpin holders that tried to copy Northwood. I myself have one I picked up at a shop about 25 years ago for about $10.
i love these hat pin holders, i also have one, but mine is a reproduction. i cant see ur pic to good but the easiest way to tell if its a repo is the top opening on the repo is much bigger an the claw looking part points more upward. fenton also made these and at the top see the ring that goes around it? fenton looks more like rope an northwood is smooth. im just learning about these so im sure i didnt describe using the proper words but this is what i found so far.
