I have collected rag dolls since I was 17. I took my first paycheck ever and bought the blonde in the middle of the top row for $17 dollors in a craft shop in Asheville N. C. Now at 66 I'm still collecting.. My most recent one is the 8" one in the red dress I bought on Ebay. I have many dolls but my favorites have the split faces and sewn on faces. The one bottom left I rescued from a dumpster and redressed her. The one next to her I found at a doll show for $1. She even had the makers name which is always a plus.I'm in a wheelchair and being surrounded by these charmers makes me happy. I live with a sister who makes me feel loved too. I love your site which I recently found .Thank you a lot.

Very cute dolls . I like cloth dolls too . Some of yours are actually factory made and some homemade but all are charming and that they give you happiness which makes them priceless and so special ! Thank you for sharing them and welcome to CW we love new people :-)

Which ones do you think are factory made?
    3. Manikin Manikin, 12 years ago
The 2 on right top shelf and can't tell from others but those 2 anyway . many years ago I thought these dolls were homemade but quality was so good I questioned it . Then I started seeing my exact dolls I had in exact clothes , faces everything the same and realized they were factory made . Here is an example I have these 2 dolls for 20 years and look here they are for sale on ebay by someone else . No chance that they were made the same right down to hair bows and this is 3 rd ones I have seen now . I also have one much like yours on top middle of shelf . They are packed but if I get to them I will post ok :-)

The doll on top in the middle is the one I bought first at the craft guild shop on tunnel road in Asheville. She was handmade by Mozell Hilton Wood from Marion N.C. In 1940's a pattern came out by Ann Adams for a rag doll with the 3 piece face. All the features are hand stitched and non are perfect. The ones I look for are probably done from this pattern and if you could see them you could tell they were handmade.

Yes it is very hard to see stitching on a photo :-( If a person could hold them in their hands it helps alot . They are precious no matter what :-)
