The grandkids have loved this item which my dad purchased at an auction many years ago. It is made of wood and looks similar to a mallard duck. There are no markings on the bottom to say if this was manufactured by a company, so I am supposing it was handmade. This duck measures approximately 16" long by 6 1/2" wide at the widest part. We would like to know more of its history and possibly when it might have been made.

Try Guyette & Schmidt the decoy auction house.
They have an identification and valuation service you can try.
I did with with an old decoy my uncle gave me, and thats here in Australia BTW! Just emailed the photos and got a response back promptly.
The duck you have is a canvasback male. Looks very similar to an early Bob McGaw Chesapeake Bay style but cannot be sure.
      Good luck

Thank you for this information. I have been busy assisting my dad who was diagnosed with cancer, so his antique research I've been doing has been on hold. This has been a great site, and I appreciate how people are willing to help.
