Thornton-Pickard. | Thornton's Patent Tourist.| 1887 to 1890.| English Field Camera.| Half Plate.|
Catalogue No. 0216.
This is the earliest model of Thornton's "Patent Tourist" Camera. Made a year after Thornton's first camera, the 1886 "Jubilee", it has a distinctive circular front panel, to take two lenses, each of which can be rotated into the taking position according to the work to be done. It ceased production in 1890, superseded by an updated "Patent Tourist" with single-lens front. Both cameras are rare. The camera illustrated is reversibly repaired, rather than restored. The back half is original; the baseboard and front supports were absent when I bought it, and those pictured are meant to be temporary replacements, simply to allow the camera to stand on a shelf. I am looking for spares and a decent photograph of the original camera, for a proper restoration.
Thanks all for the loves!
