I need a little help identifying this tea pot. The only identifying mark is on the second picture. There is an inscription next to it that might be "S20" or "520". Any help would be much appreciated. I'm not even sure if the tea pot is silver or plated. Thanks much.
That looks like a chocolate pot. If it were sterling, it would be heavy. Silver plate items are light in weight. Sterling will have a 925 mark on it.
Chocolate pot? Is that just the name or they were actually used for making chocolate? It's not that heavy so I will assume that it is plated.
You have a very nice piece of plated silver. Chocolate pots are tall, narrow and yes, they used them for serving chocolate. If you clean the outside, other than with water, use a silver creme cleaner, not the liquid tarnish remover. It will damage the silver, especially on an older piece...been there, done that! Enjoy finding out more about chocolate pots and who used them in the 1600's, Europe.
