I need help with this. I know it has to be for making shoes back in the day. What is it called? The handle when turned opens and shuts the wood .

This is an old shoe stretcher. It wasn't used so much in the making of shoes as it was used by the consumer of shoes to make them fit better. I still use these in my leather shoes today when they need it.
