This is large and heavy. I think it's concrete on the bottom and lacqured on the lady reading the book.
Trying to find out what this statue is. Does anyone know? |

A reclining Buddha. This is a Chinese Buddhist representation of the goddess Guanyin who embodies the compassion of all of the bodhisattvas. She is the "Female Principle": a female version of the originally male Sanskrit Avalokitesvara ( the Lord who looks down on us). We call her the Mercy Goddess or Goddess of Mercy. Here she is reclining, but you will see a variety of poses for her. The name is also written in English as Guanshiyin or Kuan-Yin, Kannon & Kwannon.
Quanyin - she who hears all the sorrows of the world.
