My favorite piece is an old double sided porcelain Ford V8 sign I've had for almost 20 years. When I was young, 1983, my father purchased a plaza in downtown St. Catharines Ontario. (Near Niagara Falls) The main unit of this plaza was an ESSO Gas Station and Auto Repair Shop specializing in Fords. The Old Armenian man who owned it was a family friend and when it came time to close down the shop, After 57 years of business, he told me I could pick through the signs and banners and keep whatever I wanted to decorate my bedroom. I came out of there that day with enough stuff to fill the back of my fathers pick-up and then some. Over the years most that "STUFF" has disappeared but I've held on to this one particular sign and had it on display in every place I've lived since. It's been from my childhood bedroom to my dorm room, first apartment, first house ...and to my wife's dismay it sits proudly in the rec room of our current home. It is in near perfect condition and the brilliant blue and white painted porcelain is as vivid as the first time I saw it. I explained to my wife that it is a piece of history as I believe it is over 80 years old and I'm pretty sure it was given exclusively to Canadian dealers. Other than that I don't know much about it. It is 35.5"x28" and in really good shape. If there is anyone out there who knows more about it or even has an idea of it's value I would appreciate the input so that I can justify it's place of honour in our home to my doubting wife. I think it's priceless :)
Very nice sign, If you need more info on the sign, my email is emderlie @ aol.com
I'm not a Ford guy but that is a beauty!!! It is listed in Amistadi's book as being worth between $2000- $5000. So, I'd let the doubter know, it's a keeper!!!!
It's only worth what someone is willing to pay, in this economy the book values really don't mean a whole lot!
You are correct, but in a lot of cases I have seen book values greatly exceded recently. A ,not often seen, sign of a popular brand, in mint condition should be able to fetch a decent price. However, I don't think he's selling it. So if he wanted to insure it or just impress his wife, we would have to refer to a known value range.
Nice sign. One just sold exactly like this a week ago. If you want some education, send an email to flash03@comcast.net and I'll help you anyway I can.
I only put that i Liked it because i'm a Chevy Guy but i Love it! LOL Nice sign in Killer condition................Great story too!
