I found this set of 4 old Asian pieces of art in a folder I picked up at a yard sale a few years ago. The size of the paper measures 10 3/4" X 14" and the images themselves measure 8" across X 11" high. Each piece of artwork is backed by a very thin sheet of rice paper. They appear to be hand painted but I am not positive. I guess they could be block prints. They all have flecks of gold scattered throughout. Each one has what I am guessing is the artists signature in black and the red ink seal (year-date-publisher).

I am embarrassed to say that I honestly don't know if they are Chinese or Japanese. If anyone can give me any information regarding these pieces (age, artist, time period, culture etc.,) I would be most appreciative. Thank you in advance for taking a look and sharing any knowledge you may have.

They are Chinese. I would date them late 19th to early 20th c. I suspect they may have been done by a female artist, but that requires more research. I cannot make out the names on the seals. Again, it would require more research.

Generally speaking, the quality of the painting and calligraphy on these paintings are fairly good and not the run-of-the-mill commercial paintings you usually find in yard sales.
