A few years ago I was metal detecting in a broken home foundation in the woods of Portland, Connecticut. I have no clue what this is! In the center there are threads for something to screw in. The designs appear to be hand carved because there are errors and the design has flaws. There are also colors in it. It appears to be a bronze metal . WHAT is this thing?
Not knowing what the dimensions are it reminds me of a base for an old paper spike. Several can be found by searching 'paper spike' or 'receipt spike'. These were used in commercial establishments and restaurants to hold receipts and papers, what else?
i would guess that it is part of a gas lamp.
Dimensions are 2 1/4" for each side (there are 6 sides) height is just under 1 1/2 " Length across the center from end to end is 4 1/2 "
IS there any way to find a time period or any value to this? it weighs 145.5 grams or 4.43 ounces.
