Although I use it as a wine bottle carrier...it looks like it has some age to it and wondered what it was originally intended for. Great craftsmanship and very solid.
Any ideas?

Most beautiful piece of work! How large is it, please? In which part of the country was it acquired, please?
App. 15" tall and 5" across. We are from Maine, but not sure where my Mom had found it.
Hi, Ollie. I think that your piece is something special - simply gorgeous, and it could also be rather valuable in terms of market value. I mention market value because you have asked for market value in previous postings.
I remark that the handle alone is solid wood, and carved in one piece from one piece of wood. No joins. Remarkable. Great patina, quality craftsmanship, a fine heirloom. Here's a link to help you in your search. It might take a while to find a like piece, but you'll encounter basket colletors alone the way who will help you. miKKo

Thanks-I'll keep searching for info.
Help...I still cant find anything else like this one...Have been searching all basket links..Need to find out more about this basket a.s.a.p.
I am still trying to find information on this basket...have searched all over the internet with no luck...anyone- any thoughts
I missed the original posting of this but have seen quite similar baskets when I lived near by Amish communities. As I remember they used them when harvesting things like fruits and nuts. Many years have passed so the use may have been otherwise but the baskets very similar.
