    Does this tool have any monetary or collectible value? All comments are appreciated. If you need me to post a more detailed picture such that necessary aspects and lettering on the tool can be seen please specify.

    What is this used for? I assume it is a plane but it there is an amazing precision and "beauty" to what appears to be a homemade design.

      Old wood working tools like this are quite collectible but like so many things are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. I don't mean to sound trite, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. So I wouldn't attempt a value on it. If there are any marks on it, of course the value would be increased. Date can sometimes be determined by markings somewhere on the metal, if there happen to be any. The one you have looks similar to one about halfway down the page at this site:

      The maker's marks read "B Callenpnr & Co Boston" and on the other side "1 1/2."

      If it was a hard mark to read or a typo in your post and might be "B Callender & Co Boston", I have a little info on them. A Boston Massachusetts hardware dealer 1851 - 1887, Benjamin Callender made planes in Boston from 1851 to 1887. There is one here:

      at worthpoint made by him that says something about if it has "& Co" would date it sometime after 1862.

      I can't identify all the types of planes, but surely someone on here can! The one at worthpoint is made for planing molding so it's a different animal all together but at least it helps date yours. Hopefully this can get you started on finding more about the type of plane and the value. Good hunting!!
