This is my oldest Quill Box, around 1870 to 1890. It was made in Canada and the collector I bought it from said a member of the Micmac tribe, it does resemble some other boxes made by the MicMac that I have seen. This one was not made for the tourist trade, but for use by the person who made it or a gift for someone. It is very simple, but I like it like that. It is made of a thick wall of Birch Bark and has quills stitching up the side and also for decoration on the lid. It is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter by 2 3/4 in height. I imagine that the person who made this quill box was either a teenager learning from her mother or grandmothers experience, or a person making the box for themselves or a gift for a ceremony. I love the simplicity of this box. Enjoy the pics :)
