This pocket watch was recently inherited. We only know that it came from Europe and is very old. An uncle brought it back to the United States from Europe after World War II. He used it as his daily time piece.

We think it is a Bovet Fleurier made by a Swiss maker for the Oriental market. However, this is conjecture based on pictures of similar watches. There is a crystal that covers the highly engraved mechanism. There does not appear to have ever been a second hand. There is crystal over an enamel face, but no metal cover for the watch face. The back cover appears to be silver and has an engraving in Oriental Script that is repeated on the mechanism. It appears to have a 17 jewel movement. The watch is in fair condition. It does run and it does have its key.

Can anyone tell us if this watch has any value other than its sentimental value?

      Hi,
You have a "Chinese" duplex with "Bat" balance weights. c.1870. These were made for the Chinese market and have a "book" value of $475-$880 depending on condition. I hope this helps a little.
