Has anyone seen anything quite like this? It's a brilliant orange on the inside and gold outside. Heavy. I'm assuming it's glass?

Check out the term "geode". Cenedese ans Seguso are possible makers but there are many other possibilities.

It totally reminds me of Alfredo Barbini, one of the best Murano glassblowers ever. Such a great glass piece!

Is there a mark anywhere I should be looking for?

Unfortunately their glass items for this time were not signed. They later started to, using A.Barbini if was made by Alfredo Barbini himself, or just Barbini if he wasn't responsible for it.

What a beautiful ashtray! I have a similar one, red on the inside, milky white on the outside. I also wondered it's orgins.

Agree it looks Italian-- lots of possibilities as to maker.
