This love affair I have with the American west started when I was a kid and watching the hundreds of American Indians walk in front of my Grandfather store on 1st street in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Then came the "Cisco Kid" which started the Cowboy part of the love affair. I watched every cowboy show I could up to the "Big Valley" in the 60's where I went on to other shows. I have read lots of books on the American West both Cowboys and Indians and because of this I find both more intriguing now. This Colt model 1878 D.A. in 45 Long Colt has a 7 1/2 inch barrel and factory wooden grips. It is Colt's second model in D.A. (Double Action) meaning that all one has to do is pull the trigger hard and it will fire. Revolvers before were single action and had to have the hammer cocked first to fire. The revolver was shipped from the factory on November 30th, 1881, to a large American Arms dealer. Colt firearms has very detailed records and for a fee will inform you when a colt firearm was made by the serial number. The Colt has a very low 4 digit serial number. Colt collector in the past have looked down on the model but have now embraced it as deserving to be excepted along with the model 1873, S.A.. I have shot the Revolver and it is fun to shoot, with black power. The Spurs pictured with the Revolver are unmarked and I believe that they were manufactured early in the 20th century. The Whiskey bottle in made before the turn of the century and is a screw top, 3 piece mold bottle, with a ground lip. This is a picture of 3 items which mite have been found on a cowboy. Hardbrake
