Hi everyone! I have been trying to find out who this L. Smith artist is, but can't find him/her anywhere in my research! It is a hand-carved, painted, then sealed wooden plaque. Does anyone know who did this? I bought it a long time ago for my "sailboat themed" room, but since then have replaced it with some original oil paintings of sailboats that I picked up along the way. I was trying to do the research so that I know how much to sell it for, but I can't find anything! Any suggestions on who L. Smith is, or how much it may be worth?

P.S. You can't tell by the picture, but the whole boat picture is carved to add depth to the picture.... it's really impressive in person!

This is one of those items that needs a second look. On the one hand, the wood, with the notched border looks kinda tacky/craftsy. But the painting & carving is exquisite. Very nicely done. My guess is it was done by a talented amateur craftsman, perhaps sold at craft fairs. In my opinion, a recognized artist wouldn't have carved his name like that on the back, but painted it on the front. But that's just my opinion!
