After browsing through CW I came across some "scary" looking dolls and they reminded me of my "scary" looking, but so cool, bottle stopper so I thought I'd put up a few pictures of it. In pretty good shape for its age. Any comments or feedback would be appreciated!
Very interesting.. and scary...and creepy! I know what you mean about some of those dolls. But there IS something about these things that draw us to them, isn't there? Thanks for the share.
Beautiful deco all pured wax head . I would think maybe for a perfume bottle ?
These half dolls were used for many things . I rather prefer a whole body but they were works of art . Very nice and I love her hat !! She is unlike the other wax doll as your's is wax all the way through and the other is wax over the top of either paper mache or composition . Do you display it in a bottle ? The bottle she had her head on would have been covered by a skirt making her appear whole :-)
Actually I meant to say a dress in her case . So it was a tall bottle that had the dress on it . They also made these heads that came to dolls waist ,which are more common to find than yours.
Thanks chinablue and Manikin for your comments. There IS something about things like this that can draw a person in for sure! A couple years ago up in Wisconsin I saw this wax doll that had human hair on it. It was very creepy, but still kick myself that I didn't buy it! This piece I display on an art nouveau candle stick..kind of like nouveau meets deco. Thanks again!
Oh you were in my area :-) Was it at my yard sale you saw it ? I had one I sold at a yard sale in WI . Small world .
No Manikin..it was at an antique shop in Minocqua. It was priced pretty high, like $175 or something like that. Had kind of reddish blonde hair. Curious as to how you had it priced?
Mine was not as beautifully dressed and to tell the truth my friend asked for it and gave it to him :-) He is long time friend and doll dealer. I have no idea how much he sold it for it was just a gift to him when he saw it . My husband and myself did have a Antique shop for several years but not in Minocqua . Minocqua is high priced area to look :-)
