I have had this frame for years and moved it many times. I rode Harleys for years and always wanted an Indian. This is as close as I got.Not sure of the year,model or value. I have kept it for sentimental reasons.Maybe one day......

Sweet. I have my 73 sitting in an old original Amen's saviour frame that houses a rear wheel shock like that Indian. You ever get started on it and if the guy is still around look up Nick Cycles in New Jersey. He had replacement springs for my Amen's still new in the box. Last i talked to him a few years back he sold out most of the old Harley parts to some big company but kept some stash and now has a Museum there on the same grounds. Good luck with the build and i've always felt the same way, rode harleys my whole life and always wanted an Indian. We both married poor women.
1940's Indian,.....I am more into the early bikes 1900-1920,...but buy these also

1940-51 Chief frame. Look for numbers bottom of left plunged shock on frame. First number will be a 3. Second and Third number will be the year. If it is a 1952-3 the numbers will be on right side near footboard mount. You don't have the engine so there is no sense trying to restore since it wont be matching numbers but you can find an engine and tranny or buy one of the new engines at KIWI Indian or Jerry Greer and make a Bobbed. I just found this site and it is very interesting. I have looked at the picture of your frame, and from what I can see it appears to be a 1940 to 1945 frame. This is based on the pictures that I have seen in Jerry Hatfield's book The New Indian Motorcycle Restoration Guide 1932-1953. On page 202 there are pictures of different year frames, figure 352 is of a 1946-47 frame the neck race is just a little above the frame. In figure 352.1 the picture of the frame is for 1938-44 but 45 is the same in the neck area; which has the neck race raised above the frame about an inch or so. The reason for this difference is that 1945 and earlier the Indian's had a leaf spring girder front end and in 1946 they had a mono-girder front end. The 1940's leaf spring was longer than the pre 40's this is due to the introduction of the spring type frame instead of the rigid frame pre 40's. To be sure of the year you will have to clean up the rear frame on the left side as you sit on it. The number will be there where Geno Spaulding told you to find it. If you want to trade that frame for a 1947 frame I would be interested in doing that as I have a 1941 Chief without the correct frame. I was planing on makeing a spacer for it to enable me to run the leaf spring girder on the 47 frame. If you do want to trade we will have to work out some details for us to be able to make a trade.
