I inherited these two statues about 20 years ago. I have no information about them. I tried the hot nail test - it did not make any mark.
Statues are about 3' tall. There are some oriental-type markings on the bottom. I will post a photo of them.
Can anyone help me with identifying them? Thank you.
Jim - I uploaded photos of the bottom markings. They are both from the Emperor statue. Thanks again, John
Jim - Thanks for all the great info. It's a real coincidence that you have pieces in your collection bearing the same marks. The fact that the pieces may be molded but are unaffected by the hot nail test is interesting. I would have thought that a liquid heat-activated material would not be so heat resistant after solidification. Maybe it was chemically activated, like some form of epoxy.
Wow...it's amazing because my father has very similar statues. The make of them are basically the same except the colors are slightly different... Where yours has blue it's green on ours, the red is darker, and the ivory itself is darker. I was wondering if you had found anything out about these because it's driving me crazy trying to find information on them.
All I know so far is what you read here. Are the maker's marks on the bottom the same?
Came across these photos as I have been researching my two Asian statues and I am amazed. I have the identical statues here in Melbourne, Australia. The only difference is that mine are not coloured at all, they are both completely bone coloured. The mark on the bottom is exactly the same. Every detail of your statues is exactly the same as mine, it's uncanny! I bought them 20 years ago at a second hand dealer. Would like to send you photos of them.
Looking forward to your photos, but I don't know how to get my email to you. Do you know? Thanks
Hi, just new to this site. Don't know how to give each other our emails addresses apart from posting them here. I'll risk it, here's mine: traceyrobinson2@bigpond.com Send me an email and I'll forward some photos. Cheers.
Hi I am new to the sight ans I have the same male figurine with same signature! Was wondering if you ever found out any more info on your pieces?
Thank you
Highly doubt there are ivory, or bone. Your first picture shows a very bright colour in the face, with some shine on them, (don't know if it is a camera flash, or if you had a light directed at them when the photo was taken). The material does not appear to have aged at all from when you acquired them.
So.......and I am no expert on Asian figures, I would hazard a guess that they are made out of a moulded resin, plastic of some kind.
There seems to be a few of them spread around the country. Have no idea if they are imports. I'm sure they were/are marking rules and regulations regarding export, and when exported.
They were perhaps made in the U.S. as novelty items, or items for decoration in a house.
sorry - I'm sure there were/are.....
