USMC lapel Pin

This lapel pin was inherited from my mother. I do not know anything else about the origin of the pin - who it was from or what it means. I remember a story about the pin told by my mother as to how the pearls came up missing. The pin was on the fireplace mantel and was accidently knocked into the fire. After the coals had cooled - it was taken out and cleaned up missing two of the six pearls.
