I've been collecting Steinie Beer bottles for about 5 years now. Steinies first came on the scene right after the end of prohibition, I have one Miller steinie that has the date, 5/13/1933 perforated right on the label. I've heard that some steinies were used during prohibition for Root Beer or Orange products but I can't confirm that. The heyday of the steinie was in the late 30's through the early 50's. It was about this time that cans and longnecks became more popular and the steinie was slowly phased out even thougha couple of east coast brewers continue to use the bottle in to the 70's. I have about 600 steinies in my collection with about 95% being from before 1950. The majority of my collection consists of bottles from Wisconsin, Illinois, New York City and Connecticut and I have a side collection of close to 70 Bock Stcinies. I also developed a web site showing photos of my collection and to discuss new acquisitons and finds by other collectors; http://www.steiniebeerbottle.com
