Georgian Cut Steel Heart Bracelet circa 1800

Cut Steel Jewelry has always fascinated me.

In the Georgian times when it first reached its peak in popularity Cut Steel Jewelry was more highly valued than Diamond Jewelry.

Part of this was due to the incredible amount of work that went into making each piece.

The jewellery was made from Recycled horse shoes which was cut into tiny faceted Cut Steel Gems, each faceted steel having as many as 16 or 18 facets in the earliest Cut Steel Jewelry and painstakingly riveted into place.

In Candlelight the effect was incredible and the Cut steels really did sparkle like diamonds.

Rare to find in good condition like Berlin Iron Jewelry Cut Steel is prone to rust and as it had no real intrinsic precious metal value few pieces have survived from the early 1800s.

I loved this simple bracelet with the romantic dangling heart.
