I have this new haven 8 day mirror car clock. It is in the original box and still has the directions. However is it not working. Does anyone have any information such as the year it was made, the value of the clock and the rarity of the clock. Any help would be much appreciated
Do the directions tell you what the model name/number is?
It looks like it might be the No. 165 AV 8-Day Pull Wind movement. If so, it would be somewhere around circa 1937. Are there any dates on the instructions?
You can check completed eBay auctions to get an idea of what your clock's current market value is:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=new+haven+car+clock&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_okw=&_oexkw=&_adv=1&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=&_fsct=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50
Also, I would expect the box to increase the value in comparison of other examples for a collector but only if you can get it in good running order. If you are a collector, it would be worth it. If you are looking at the clock in terms of investment/speculation, be careful, you probably won't get your money back out of it unless you find the right buyer(s). Good luck.
Perhaps pw-collector can help you here. He collects automobile clocks. I defer to his experience/judgement. Dave, are you out there?
Bruce- thanks so much for the information. I would like ot get it back in working order and see it functional again. Il definatly be double checking the directions and seeing if I missed anything that would indicate year or model. Hopefully pw-collector has some more information for me.
colts1888,
I wish I could help with more information but I agree with Bruce99. I have picked up a few car clocks over the years, but I am no expert on these. I just like them. I mentioned in a post of a Phinney-Walker pull-string car clock that I once had a pull-string rear view mirror clock. It had a new haven movement but the dial was not marked new haven. I took it to a old clock shop to have it repaired because the pull string would not retract. The last time I saw it was over 5+ years ago. The owner closed the shop down and 2 years ago quit taking calls from me.
I have never seen another on exactly like it for sale since, so if yours is a pull-string wind clock, they are not found very easy in my part of the world anyway.
Great looking clock and to have the box makes it fantastic! A great addition to any collection.
Thanks for showing it and I hope you can get it in running order.
Dave
