This beauty has an interesting story about how i came to own it. As a kid, i always wanted a giant clam for my extensive shell collection, but i never did find one. A few months ago, i had a dream that i found one and i was really happy. The next day, i found a very nice, but much smaller one at the Berkeley city dump. A few days later, i was out walking my dog and we found this on a sidewalk near in my neighborhood - in front of a house which had been foreclosed. I think that a Samoan family lived there and lost their home and were unable to take this w/ them. It takes 3 strong guys to lift and move this with a lot of effort. It is almost 40" x 24" and very thick - hence almost 300 lbs.
Oh how wonderful ! I love it . I also love shells and what a find this was :-)

good question. years ago, i found some fossil oysters near patterson, california and the fossilized shells were 6" thick. I figured they must have been at least 5-600 years old when they died.

thanks kyratango and mskittyloo! you're right, it's very difficult or impossible to find them this big. this is larger than any i've seen for sale or sold in the last dozen years at least.
