Salt or MSG? New design collecting possibilities.
"Salt is the only seasoning, all the other things, spices etc are flavours" or something like that came from the chef Neil Perry last week on Masterchef, Australia. But I, like most people over 60, have cut down on the salt intake; for that reason I found this in a thrift shop for fifty cents, I suppose. But I do like the pun in the name "MGSALWI" and I have always like the Memphis look of Graves pieces for Alessi. There is no mistaking his design cues: I love that distinctive dimple-patterned stainless steel of the highly polished housing, completed with a blue polyamide top, for finely distributing the dreaded, dreadful salt crystals.

Michael Graves was born in Indianapolis and has been teaching architecture in Princeton since 1962. His architectural works include the Portland Building and the Humana Building, the extension of the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Newark Museum. He created the best-selling 9093 kettle for Alessi, too!

I prefer my Richard Sapper freebee!

    Year of Design: 1988?
    Dimensions: H: 11.3cm, Diam: 6.3cm?
Material: 18/10 stainless steel, Polyamide base & lid

Howdy V! Not familiar with this. I like how "rockety" this looks.
Along with collecting phases, I go through reading phases...had a space read a thon a while back.

Well now, vetraio50. I might just have a "Mickey" clock that you might like to see. I'll go and get it out of the closet and post a picture shortly. It's a "Michael Graves" design for "Disney"

Thanks all: Amber, Bellin & kerry too! The matching 9098 pepper mill looks like a Dalek mouseketeer. The clock sounds interesting - a blue one!
