It looks like you have a Spittoon. The U.S. Tobacco Company has been around since the 1820s, under several different names:
      1822-1870 - George Weyman
      1870-1905 - Weyman & Bros
      1905-1911 - American Tobacco Company
      1911-1922 - Weyman-Bruton Company
1922-2001 - United States Tobacco Company
      2001–present - U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company
It might have been new when she gave it to you, or it could have been made in the 1920s.

you're welcome. If there are any other markings it might clue you into the age more.

Good looking Spittoon. I worked at U.S. Tobacco Co. for 14 years. In there warehouse was an old Philip Hass Toilet. You can find it under Philip Hass Toilet. I have two Spiittoons from there but they don't have any marking on them. I think my are 30 years old. Before I left they replaced them with some cheap ones. I like any kind of things from U.S.

On the listings is another spitton from a Railroad,if you find it perhaps that can give you some info about your posting.
