Here's a neat little catalog from a well-known at the time art school in nyc. The thing that's special about this is that it was the first year Arshile Gorky was a teacher there. The painting of his shown here is one he did of a Rodin sculpture. I believe that this image in this catalog is the first reproduction of a Gorky known. I think it makes this little catalog rare and special. I have no idea how to put a value on it though. I have quite a few old art catalogs - some are pretty special, i think.
this really is a special catalog! mainly because of the first image published of an Arshile Gorky. John Singer Sargent and Daniel Chester French ran the school which began operation just 4 yrs before this catalog was released. Norman Rockwell and Stuart Davis were students there in 1927.
Is there any way to see a low res copy of the Grand Central School of Art catalog? It was such an eventful time in NYC with the birth of modern art. Thanks
thank you for your comment tbirdblues. you can see more photos of the catalog here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjzojP1k
