I purchased this beautiful decanter set and glasses at an estate sale and was wanting to know a little bit more about it. It's in great shape with no chips or cracks. I've taken it to a few antique shops in the area and they were not very helpful. I've learned this a Star and File pattern made by Imperial. Just wanting to know what the particular color would be called and if anyone has any idea of an approximate value. Thanks!!

the pattern is Imperial Glass #612 Star and File; orginally introduced in crystal around 1904. Tho' I'm not sure when Imperial may have reissued this pattern in the color and finish that yuou have here.

Thank you for the info, now I just to find out what year this particular style was made.

here are a couple of online references. do any of your pieces have the IG glass mark, which is usually on the botton but sometime on the inside of wines?

I stumbled upon these links a few days ago but I haven't been able to find anything else about the coloring of the glass though unfortunately. I can find a couple of the Marigold pieces here and there, but mostly just the clear decanter and goblets. The grape pattern seems to be everywhere but nothing really in this color in the star and file pattern.

I have a hard time with carnival glass colors but you might check peacock or smoke to see if you can find something similar. You might look thru some of the Imperial glass images at ddoty.com to compare the colors.

Great pieces, I have punch bowl mugs 12 of them that I bought from a yardsale for $5.00 for all. Of course I don't have just the punch bowl itself. So I been on search of the colors and designs. I wanted to let you know I found a piece very similar to yours on ebay going for over $1,000. They might have more information . below is the link:

Thank you for the info, I contacted him and the only info he could give me is that this particular color is very rare, hence why it's so valuable.

      Hi there,
Unfortunately your set is not very old or rare. The colour is smoke.
It is very similar to the set being sold in ebay, the link already given to you above.
The difference between that set and yours is that the rare set has a star patterned base, yours has the IG logo. Any of these Imperial pieces that bear the IG logo are not old, from memory I think from the 1960's onwards. They are reissues. If you come across any Imperial pieces that state that the set is " pre logo " with a star base, that means its old and rare, think from 1911 on.
      Hope this helps.
