Marklin collectors know all about the famous SK800. Here are four examples in excellent condition. They are from different years. These steam engines are all metal and heavy. They operate flawlessly. Marklin uses a three rail system with the middle rail nearly invisible. This is why you see a "pick-up shoe" under the engine. These can suffer from "zinc pest" which has destroyed many a collection and there is nothing one can do to stop it once it starts. Zinc pest is a result of poor quality metal used during WW2. My friend and restaurateur Mr. Bauer wrote to me about zinc pest, what it is, what actually takes place in the metal, etc. All these years this collection has been kept in a dry, cool environment, free of dust and temperature changes.

    Have a great day.

Hey man I got me a Marklin SK800 my Dad brought it back from 1 of his Med Cruises, sometime around 1958-61. I remember setting it up as a child .The train set has been in the original box since. Could you tell me what it may be worth?

Hello John. Wow, can you email me some clear pictures of the locomotive, tender and also the undercarriage ? And a picture of the box where the Marklin sticker is located. Tell me also if the staples on the box are bent around each corner or if they are straight (unbent). The color may be difficult to describe if it is not black. Pictures and the actual locomotive issue number on the paperwork will tell the story. One bad thing about these SK800 is that the metal can crack and crack badly deforming the entire locomotive. It is called "zink pest". It is due to poor quality metal at the time. Not all do that. If yours has zink pest, you will see it yourself right away. Early SK800 in excellent condition with the original box and papers usually hold their value. I look forward to your pictures. Merry Christmas to you and prosperous new year. RM

      Hi...
Looks like I am a little late on this post, but I will go ahead. I just found this web sight. I have thought in the past of selling my old train set but I could not find anyone having what I had. At this moment, I believe this Sk800 was sold to me used as "Hitlers' Train", in the 1970's. Until now I have been unable to find anything like it. If there is any other info. on this or if there is a trust-able dealer in my area, I would be thankful for the help. Recently a new train shop opened in Overland Park,KS... fredstrainshop.com ..;however i don't know of anyone else in Kansas City. I don't know if I would ever sell it, but it is obvious my children are not interested. If there is anything you can do for me it would be much appreciated.
      Thank You,
      Pete Hyer

Hello Peter. I have German catalogues on Marklin and people I know who are well versed in what you have. Please email me clear close up photos of all sides of your locomotive. Also the bottom. If you have the original box I'd like a photo of that too, especially the Marklin sticker on the side. I can look it up in my catalogues (Kohll's catalogues) and also ask my friend in Germany for their evaluation of what your loco could be worth. I look forward to your reply. Ren

I too have a SK 800...it was brought back from Germany after the war. I am having trouble finding a source or part number for the light bulbs on the front of the engine and for light bulbs that were in a set of lamp posts. This may be a 'px version' set. Can you help me?

Hi Paul. Sorry for the long delay. Had some personnal problems to deal with. Have you found the light bulbs for your SK 800 ?

I have a Marklin train set and I am trying to determine the value. Some of the original boxes are with it. If there is someone able to help me, I would be happy to send photos. Thanks!

      Hello "smilesflower"
I may be able to help you if you send the photos to me at "ren7039@gmail.com"
Do you have original boxes with each item ?
What is the condition of each item ? (dents, rust, missing parts)
Send me the photos and I will check my German catalogues.
