    Gunslinger…
    (1 item)

Would just like to know what some of the "experts" here might be able to tell me about this watch. It has a gold case and is not a regular "big" pocket watch. Has a screw on back. Inside the SN # 19903461 , 15 jewels. I found the watch buried in the mud about 1954, in our backyard near Dallas, Texas. My Dad took it to a watch shop got it all cleaned and it runs perfectly. He carried it for "me" many years while I served multiple tours in Vietnam, 60-70's. It will still run perfectly, but I don't carry it. Have it just wrapped in cotton, in a safe. One source I looked at leads me to believe that it was (maybe) manufactured about 1916-1917. I am a disabled Vet, getting on in years and was just wondering what this watch might mean, especially to my kids. Appreciate any information, advice. Thanks.

Lovely watch and lovely story to match! I hope someone here can assist you - how amazing you found it buried in the mud!

      Hi,
You may want to re-check your serial number because the number you have is for the year 1917 but a 7-jewel and size 16s.

thisoldwatch and AR8Jason. Well I kind of messed it all up by not looking at everything, even the Sn #, originally thought was 19903461. It's actually SN# 19203461, INSIDE on the case. Also got a magnifier and the following is also on the INSIDE of the case; " Fahys (not actually sure about this word. It's in script) , Montauk, guaranteed 20 years." And on the movement INSIDE; SN# 24115236, 15 jewels, Elgin National Watch Company, USA. Thanks very much for the responses, including flowerrose.

Again, AR8Jason, thank you very much for taking the time with this and providing your expertise and information. Guess that I always knew that it wasn't just "junk" . My Dad said "well it's an Elgin, it's a good watch, hang on to it". So I've had it for about 58 years and from your info, it's about 91 years old. Thanks again.
