      Looks like you have the right time frame -- according to Digger O'Dell's website -- http://www.bottlebooks.com/questions/April2000/april_2000_questions.htm -- "... Eugene R. Durkee began as a druggist in the 1850s selling spices and extracts. He began business in Buffalo but shortly moved to New York to expand his operation. He was located in Brooklyn by 1870. ..."
