Pictured here is a very scarce Martian Rat Fink Ring, circa 1960's. I don't think that this was a toy from the average gum ball vending machine. Regular Rat Finks were a gum ball dispenser toy that came in a small plastic container that looked a lot like an acorn. I think that this Martian Rat Fink came in a much larger, soft poly bag with a colorful cardboard collar. I don't know how it was sold. Possibly in a bigger vending machine, possibly in a store.

I used to have a number of the regular Rat Finks. My brother would often get them and share them with me. I would paint their eyes silver with his model paints. I don't know what happened to these cherished toys over the years....

I never went in for the hot rod scene associated with the Rat Finks - hot rods make too much noise!, for one thing. But if my godfather were to show up in a fastback Mustang today, I'd hop right in. My godfather served in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam and would sometimes stay with us when on leave. He drove very fast and well. He had a large black Harley that was very noisy and smelly. But since he was a splendid fellow, I was pleased to tolerate his Harley.

Hi, scandi! This fella fell off a meteor. He burnt a patch in my perfect lawn when he landed, so I was able to spot him, despite his green camo. He looks a bit mean, but he's just tired. He said he'd been captured last week in California and posted on eBay. Someone in Oklahoma hired him off of eBay to manage his gum ball collection, but later released him so that he could find a more congenial home. He hangs out with Mr. Spock now.

Seriously, I bought him on eBay. I had seen only one other in my life, and that one was in its original poly bag with cardboard collar. This Martian does not resemble my godfather in any way - they just both drive fast. Thanks for your fun and kind comments all!!! ; )

Hi miKKo! They just deleted my French Perfume bottle as I was typing on it!!! GGRRRRR they do that alot to mine - I'm not even selling it!! Golly.

That pump thing inside is where the perfume is kept - so perfume doesn't full up whole bottle. There are no makers marks on it. Girl bought it from The Hamptons in NY. It's so pretty, such a shame crystal stopper is broken.
    12. miKKoChristmas11 miKKoChristmas11, 12 years ago
Hi, flowerrose! I didn't think that your item violated any policy. Perhaps you could repost it, just as a beautiful bottle without much comment....And maybe post a note to one of VolDeNuit's show and tell items to clue him in.....

Yes, shame about the stopper - you'd have to hunt forever to find a replacement, and probably would never find one. Might look very attractive with your white furniture and hardwood floors.

Secretly, I like the elephant and monkey bottles better, but that's just me. I've never seen an elephant perfume bottle!

      Take care, kind soul! miKKo

hi Mikko - my second posting disappeared too!! Sigh.
I have decided it won't become mine because I have since discovered it's clear crystal and the photo was taken at night making me think it was coloured mauve. I liked the colour but not so keen on clear crystal. If it had been coloured I would have got the stopper repaired.

So I will have to be content with my monkey and elephant. Yay - I just saved myself over $200 :-)

Ggrrrrr my Lalique Ram post has gone too!!
    15. miKKoChristmas11 miKKoChristmas11, 12 years ago
Hi, flowerrose! So sorry about your posting problems. (Maybe BELLIN snatched the Lalique ram and gave it a good home : ) Sorry about perfume bottle, but good thing you found out about the color in time. If I had a way to send it, I'd send you a "Je Reviens" tower perfume bottle. (See VolDeNuit's Show and Tell entry with "dans la nuit" and "Je Reviens". Hope your evening is splendid! Regards, miKKo

He looks a little devilish doesn't he? Probably just finished setting up a prank on Spock and is now waiting for the trap to be sprung. Another lovely quirky piece. I love it!

Thank you kindly, sir! Yes, the fella's been hanging out with that monkey of trunkman's, and the both of them are on a tear, I hear. Seems I heard that they were painting an old ash blanket chest with yellow and pink polka dots....Thanks, trunkman, for the good cheer and appreciation!!! miKKo

Hi, BELLIN! Good to see you. "Your up" - does that mean that I held my own in banter, or that Hedgewalker has reappeared after a long absence, or something else? I'm slow to pick up on jargon. miKKo

      Hi Mikko :-)

Vol De Nuit has identified it:

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/MATSON-2-PERFUME-BOTTLES-WITH-CHERUBS-BIRDS-CASKET-ORMOLU-VANITY-SET-/160797830893?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25704c2eed&_uhb=1

      And some information too:
      http://reviews.ebay.com/Vintage-Matson-Stylebuilt-Guildcrest-Vanity-Sets?ugid=10000000004251395

That vanity set is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! I think I will now wait for a set that isn't broken.

Hi, flowerrose! That's wonderful! I'm so glad that VolDeNuit was able to find it for you!!! I do like the amber tint to the glass, and it would look great with your cream colored walls. Hope you're Friday is fabulous!!! : ) miKKo

Hi, Bellin! You are so very welcome! It is so easy to be your friend - you are full of goodness, kindness, graciousness, mercy, and wit. I don't know anyone who wouldn't cherish being your friend. Now, if I were battling it out with you daily at the Goodwill, I would be vexed with you, man! It's like God puts them there so that you can find them. I have NEVER seen ANYONE who can find as many gorgeous items as you do. I had to laugh out loud - something I rarely do - when I read vetraio50's comment on the Pickers' van: "I reckon they're at Goodwill." Hope your Friday is blessed, sir! Regards, miKKo

This is just one of Ed"Big Daddy"Roths works of art. He walked a different path than everyone else. Cal. was the place to be in the 60s-70s much creativity came out of those parts. He must have been neighbors with my "mug man" Jim Rumph!

Greetings, Birdie, from Capt. Rat Fink!!! The pilots in my crew are all trained to crash land - every landing. So would be painful for you to be taken to our Leader. Besides, we can never agree on anything, so we can't decide who our Leader is - our Leader on earth, that is. Have too many Texan Martians in the crew -- they're all a bunch of Lone Star Cowboys. So crash and burn we all merrily will. I'll send you a postcard next time I dock on Mars. Won't be long - we've been summoned home for an emergency meeting. Seems that NASA is getting closer to our secret underground colony. Must fly now. Till later!!! : )

Greetings and Peace to friends of Clan Rat Fink!!! "A fangu" does not compute, but we know you mean well. You are the gardener who's always pulling weeds in weather foul and fair. You might have seen us recently. One of the young pilots dropped by for a chat with your garden gnome, only to discover that earthlings don't permit real gnomes in their gardens. Forest is the place to find mushrooms and leprechauns. Gnomes under snowy bridges. We're worried about young Fink. He's driving around without a single crash scar on his saucer. But today it's clear and bright, perfect for flying and diving and -- crashing! We practice crashing today. We'll try not to scorch the turf, but if we fail to be phantom - remember, it's the thought that counts! May all your comings and goings today be memorable and bright!!!
