When I was still well off, about 5 years ago, I bought this Australian opal from a guy who was done and out. He said it was a natural opal from Australia and that he paid alot for it when he had a job and needed to sell it (I know that feeling). I could see he was in need and I felt bad for him. I just loved the fire in this stone. I gave him $50.
I was going to put it in a setting and never got around to it but I thought I would share this gorgeous fire-y Opal with you.
I don't know anything else about this opal. If you have info, I would appreciate it as usual, Anita

Check out Koroit boulder opal. Koroit , Australia is home of Koroit Boulder opal. Close by are the opal mining fields of Jundah and Opalton, which also produce Matrix Opals. Their thin colour bars can produce beautiful patterns. Blackgate Opal Field has produces these dark, stunning opals, also known as Aboriginal Art Opals.
Polished conglomerate opal slabs from Koroit make outstanding displays, with unique natural patterns and kernels.
It only occurs in deposits in weathered sedimentary Cretaceous rocks in the west of the state of Queensland.
The Term Koroit Matrix opal is where the opal occurs as a network of veins or infilling of voids or between grains of the host rock (ferruginous sandstone or ironstone).
