Hi everyone - I just moved and forgot I had this, it was bought on EBay over a decade ago.
I recall the seller said it was found in an attic, but I don't remember now which state. I was just going to post it up for sale, but I thought I had better check to see if it was really old or if anyone had any details on the person in the painting.
It looks really old, I can take close up pictures if needed. The wood in the back is old, it smells old, the paint is cracked, and is not even, there are lumps and bumps etc. From everything I have just read about 'fakes' this one does not appear to be any kind of copy.
You know, it looks very old, but art is just one of those things that doesn't translate very well via photographs.
In my amateur opinion, the signs seem to be there that it is authentically old, both from your description, and from your photos. But you really should have it professionally appraised. Authentic American folk art can be quite valuable. Good luck, I hope it's real, and that you can retire comfortably!
