I found my safari chairs at our local Waste Management recycling center. They were disassembled and in a heap on the floor. I had no idea what they were but I took a chance on them. I washed and bleached all the canvas pieces and began the laborious task of putting them together. It was like piecing together a puzzle. After much trial and error I succeeded!
I have not positively identified the maker of these chairs. The leather straps that secure the backs are very old and worn. I'm guessing they are from the 1960's as I have seen similar chairs in a Sunset book on outdoor living areas that was printed in the early 60's.
They are very similar to Kaare Klint chairs but not identical. I have only found one chair that looks like mine that was posted by a thrifter in England.
Perhaps someone reading this can shed a little light on their origins.
Thanks, Jamie
Fantastic, they look great.
What an amazing find! And what a lot of work! Totally worth it, these chairs are beyond awesome!
