I have had this set of plates for about 7 years. The plates are 10 inches, with gold around the edges and along the verge. I love the pattern but In that time I have never been able to identify the pattern name, find any other like it or determine the date. The only thing I know (or think I know) is that this mark was used beginning in 1907 and ended in 1949 when it was marked Rosenthal Selb-Germany until 1954. This one really has me stumped. I hope somebody out there knows the pattern or has better reference material at hand than I do! Thanks for taking the time to look.
So close but yet.... Still, way to go, scandi! Tropical Dusk is the closest I've ever seen to what I have. Thanks for finding it!
Tropical Dusk has fewer leaves, lacks the small orange flowers at the nape of the bird's neck and the branches that connect the birds to the pattern. Mine seems more, I don't know, maybe detailed in comparison. Mine also has two large orange flowers between the birds where this has one and a gold edge and verge.
I agree Maria Rustica is the same type of print which seems to have an Asian bent but it's lacking a lot detail, most notably the birds since it only has the one.

The date of the mark has been really hard pinpoint too. If my research is correct, I found that they used a Rosethal Selb Germany mark 1949-1954. I also found that they used the mark on mine beginning in 1907. So, from that I figure it's between 1907 and 1949. I can't find another that was used before 1949 but after 1907.
I think that perhaps the Tropical Dusk is a newer version of the pattern I have. What do you think...a newer version or an entirely different pattern? I've about decided Rosenthal patterns are as difficult to pin down as Noritake can be!

Honestly, I haven't resorted to them yet. ;-) In what I've seen so far, I believe Aida is blank design. It comes either cream or white. It has a wide flat rim with a pretty steep verge. I've seen the Tropical Dusk described as "Aida with a floral and tropical bird design". They have that Winifred plate also that has a sort of raised edge along the rim in cream and white that I believe was a blank, much like the Aida that was decorated in different patterns. I may be mistaken but that's what it seems to be after all the research I've done. Here is a link for the Winifred:

Thanks ROB! Now I know there is one out there like mine. I was just getting ready to break down and get in touch with them. *LOL* I wonder if it ever HAD a name, or just a number?? You'd think they would call it something besides that. Next, to find out how old it is....scandi, I've donned my bifocals.. time to dig some more info!

No, vetraio50.. hadn't seen that site. Thanks for posting it! :-) From what I see there, it seems this would narrow this set to be somewhere between the '20s- early 30's, you think? And what do you make of the 1922 Rosenthal "Botticelli" marks having one with 2 dots and one with 3? I see what you mean about the difference, but I really can't make out any rhyme or reason to it, but I do see how they move the dots and dashes around.
scandi, sorry for the lag in posting back. This one got lost in the shuffle. I have only a set of 12 plates, no other pieces in this pattern, I'm sorry to say.
No scandi, I'm afraid not. If I ever find out more though, I'll post it here.

Thanks so much scandi! Between watching the Olympics and trying to keep Jim from getting cabin fever and going stir crazy, we've been pretty busy. I hate he got hurt, but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been wonderful having him home. He works nights, so we rarely get to go out running amok together during the day and I'm home alone every night. We've sure missed keeping up with everyone here at CW but are enjoying having some fun while he's off and feeling better than he did last month! :-)
I have a partial set of the same pattern you are calling tropical dusk. I received them from my grandmother whom she had bought in a garage sale in Omaha, Nebraska. I have many many pieces, ( 50 or 60 pieces ). I would love to find more and have no idea how to identify them either. Was wondering how many pieces you had, and if they may have been commissioned. Mine are all numbered on the back.

Hi Kimba. I was surprised to see a comment after this being on here so long. LOL You're the first person I've heard of that had this pattern or for that matter had even seen it! I have a dozen dinner plates, but that's it. I would love to see pictures of the other pieces such as cups/saucers or any serving pieces you might have. I must admit I've never contacted Replacements dot com to see if they could identify it (which I'd bet they can) Just a matter of not taking the time to have done it. :-) I may just send it on today and see if I can find an answer for us. Hello, I have a set of this same pattern that was my grandmothers. I have 10 dinner plates, 5 salad plates, 2 bowls, 4 saucers, and 2 mini teacups. Did you ever find out any more information on this pattern?
I found it listed at R782 by Rosenthal - Continental. Try doing an image search using that.
I've spent ages trying to discover anything about this pattern. Here is the first mention I've found. I have two handled soup bowls and saucers and I think they are gorgeous. Thanks for the R782 number. It works!
