Hi I wonder if you can help me. I work in a Cancer Research charity shop and we recently had an old sewing machine donated to us. The lady who donated it said it is in working order. It is a Phoenix machine, made in Germany, writing on a metal plate says Nadein Qualitat 287, and another plate has the number 238154 on it, it also has its wooden case. However I am having difficulty finding an equivalent model on the internet in order to get an idea of its history and value. I have spent a lot of time and have searched dozens and dozens of different internet sites, links etc; and also checked Ebay but to no avail. Any help identifying the machine, its age, origin, background history or where to find information about it, would be much appreciated. Thank you

This machine is a Baer and Rempel Phoenix - German maker, the machine is in the style of the Wheeler and Wilson D9. I don't know of a source for dates.

I found a date source - this machine dates to around 1900. The imprint Nadeln Qualitat 287 is the needle type for this machine - it's not a common needle but you can still buy them. Not rare - the production was in the millions, but not as common as a typical Singer model. I know you wanted this information 10 months ago so it may not be useful to you now, but hopefully it helps others. :)
