could someone tell me where i can go check the makers mark so i can at least see who made it.
Hi,
A picture of the back of the watch and inside of the back cover would be helpful. This would show any gold marks if any. It looks gold-filled from what I can see. I believe part of the ratchet, winding wheel is missing. Hands and a new crystal would be very easy to find at a resonable price. If the staff is good, it would be worth fixing as a keepsake. Any old time watchmaker can help you with this.
Good Luck,
Jim
the back cover has a mark the color of that part of the case looks different from the rest more gold
its also very heavy
does anyone know where i can go look for the marking on this watch
thisoldwatch, so you think the pictures are getting harder to see well in this new format or is it just me?? I was able to download the first one with the hallmark on it and enlarge it and tweak it a bit. It's appears to be the bear (or what some call a dancing dog) that is a swiss sterling hallmark. I don't know watches, but I have a little bit of knowledge (dangerous!) of silver. So put that with what thisoldwatch said and it's most likely gold plated silver. thisoldwatch knows watches. :-) There are others quite similar on this site if you care to look around a bit.
thisoldwatch, do you think the pictures are getting harder to see well in this new format or is it just me?? I was able to 'grab' the first one with the hallmark on it and enlarge it and tweak it a bit. I don't like that they can't be enlarged anymore! *ggrr*
Sorry, didn't mean to double post in that last comment. I tried to stop, but enter had already been hit! *LOL*
