Hello- I am a researcher working for a man that owns this flask. He has had it for 50 years, bought it in NY and has never been able to identify it. There are no markings, we are not sure what the metal is. We do know it is handmade, it does have 2 openings but only one chamber. The stoppers are metal and fit perfectly into each opening. The chain seems to be handmade as well. I have searched everything I can, even the library in historical markings and it may be Prussian. The pictures don't do it justice. There is so much detail to it. The front and back are identical as well as the sides and sits on two feet. He loves it and just wants to know where it came from. I also wanted to share a beautiful peice of art work that could be centuries years old. Thank you for looking and hope it arouses your curiosity. Carla Ball

My curiosity has been aroused! It's splendid!
My interest in flasks has come about since coming across a Tribal Native American - Mongolian - Tibetan (juries out!) hipflask - you can see it on my listings.

I will keep my eye out for you - it would be wonderful if you could solve this one!

When I first saw this from the side, it looked like some of the work by Oleg Gavrilov. I get a very eastern European/Russian feel looking at this. And while I was looking around at Russian metalwork and flasks, I found this:

I won't post all the info here, but I think you'll find that site helpful. :-) Lovely piece.

It looks to me to be Chinese export of coin silver quality.

Thanks for your comments. the Worthpoint said was no longer there-odd. My Dr is a big art history buff and said it looked Prussian and it is a flask. I have been without power then phone lines for two days so it's been killing me not to be able to get back here to see what others thought. I don't understand why there is no marks on it, unless it is hidden in the design. I have another unusal piece of Disney, a stained glass painting of Bambi, Thumper and Flower. Thanks for you help

I just tried worthpoint again and it worked, very cool-thanks. I wonder what it sold for. I did the 7 day free trial and used my 5 lookups already.

I'm glad it worked for you and you're quite welcome. I hope you can find out more about it and share your information when you do. Have you gone over it with a jewelers loupe to make sure there are no marks anywhere? Sometimes those things can be a real devil to find, can't they?

I have a flask very similar and have also been trying to find out it's age and value. If you have any luck please let me know. I am going to try to post pictures.
