Many years ago I lived in Tokyo, Japan. What a wonderful place to live!! There were so many things I enjoyed and appreciated. Of course, pottery is always a favorite but I fell in love with Japanese handkerchiefs and I have never been able to find anything to compare with them since I came home.

They have entire stores filled to the ceiling with nothing but handkerchiefs. Huge, soft, and amazing. I gave most of the hankies I bought in Japan as gifts when I returned. Then I started ordering them and made a quilt out of those. Now I have a few more and I think I'll just appreciate them.

This is an example of a new acquisition: It is a Shibori Dye Red Flower Motif Handkerchief. The tag 'Shibori' = Shiborizome - a Japanese term for several methods of dyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing it, or capping. Some of these methods are known in the West as tie-dye. The size of this handkerchief is about 44cm. It has a seal tag attached and is 100% cotton.

Thanks for looking. I have a few more to show.

Hello Amber. The handkerchiefs are amazing (one can actually use them and they don't fall apart :) There are millions of colors and designs all in one store (and they're all over). I'd love to open a store here. I think people would love them. They were not expensive at all.

Thanks for the love and comment :) I appreciate it.

These large shibori handkerchiefs are works of art! And also extremely practical to use, thanks to their size. I first saw them in the context of a Japanese tea ceremony meal; the participants often put on their lap while eating so as to keep their kimono pristine. These handkerchiefs are elegant, yet easily laundered. (I now have 2 or 3 set aside for exactly that use.)

Truly lovely items and, being shibori, each one is unique. Thanks for sharing yours, it's gorgeous.
