Indian Motorcycles....1901-1953. The "Indian Motocycle Co." was originally founded as the Hendee Manufacturing Company by George M. Hendee in 1897 to manufacture bicycles. In 1901, a prototype and two production units of the diamond framed Indian Single were successfully designed, built and tested. The first Indian motorcycles, featuring chain drives and streamlined styling, were sold to the public in 1902. In 1903, Indian's co-founder and chief engineer Oscar Hedström set the world motorcycle speed record (56 mph). Highly sought after Indians are still on the road today.

This emblem came off my dad's 48 Indian chief. This type was used from '47-'53. The paint that is left on it is the color of his motorcycle..I think it was called "Prairie Green". He called it the "Green Angel. We'll have to post a picture of it sometime! :-)

Nice! Looks like a tank emblem from about a 1948 Chief/Roadmaster, give or take a couple years.
