This lamp is so beautiful and so heavy..I know it is an antique and want to find out more about it. It works fine...and has a metal tag hanging inside the shade...please if you know anything share it with me..thanks so much
Although you have a very beautiful lamp and no doubt want to keep it the way it is, it actually is a piece together lamp. The base is one that was used by Chicago Mosaic or The Mosaic Shade Co. The heat cap, as well as the shade ring were used by The Handel Lamp Co., but are currently being reproduced. The heat cap appears to have age to it, but the finial may be newer. The shade, although in the style of Handel and The Unique Lamp Co. looks to me to be a reproduction, though I may be wrong, it is hard to tell from the pictures. It is still a very decorative lamp and would look great in an Arts & Crafts or Victorian home. Thank you for sharing it!
Sorry but just one more question Johann...the tag on the inside says todlack...do you know anything about that? thanks for your time and trouble.
What does the metal tag say on it?
If you go to http://www.leadedlamps.com/hbchimofloral.html you can see your base with the appropriate type of shade. Also on the site you can see Handel lamps. Compare the quality of Handel and Chicago Mosaic shades to yours. You will see a difference in the quality. There are a lot of talented stained glass people out there and the old shades are much more rare than the old bases, so they put their creations on older bases. Most are not trying to fool anyone or produce forgeries, but it can be confusing for many collectors.
The tag is metal and says two words..Tad lock...I don't know what that even means..thanks for your help.
Tad lock is probably the maker of the shade. If you ever want to make it look more correct, you could exchange the base for a Handel base. But, I would leave it the way it is and enjoy it.
Thanks for all of your wisdom..I am going to do just that!
