I have a huge black trunk measuring 37 x 24 x 38 inches.
There is some damage to covering and there are no working
clasps on it. The handles are still attached and functional.
I have not been able to find exactly what kind of trunk
this is in hours of searching on the net.
There are no drawers or compartments inside, just padded rails...
as if to protect something.
On the outside just a metal tag saying :
"Taylor Made"
Est 1859
C. A. Taylor Trunk Works
Chicago New York
There is residue from tape or a sticker saying
"Mastercraft Phonograph (I THINK)
Quincey, IL"
on the top of the trunk.
If anyone could tell me what kind of trunk this is, or what it might
be worth, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your trunk post. Taylor trunks were well made trunks used for a variety of purposes. Yours appears to be of a later vintage. Some were made to hold musical instruments, which may be the case for yours. Unfortunately your pictures make it a little hard to discern details that help us identify its age, value and use. A full picture of the interior and a full picture of the exterior would help. Judging by what I see it appears to be in rough shape which affects its value. Being more of a utilitarian trunk and less of a trunk intended for home use, makes it a little less desirable for some. I personally love the look of old trunks -- particularly as coffee table. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for the new pics. Looks like a trunk made for a specific instrument or tool of some sort. Taylor made cases for theaters and performers. I appreciate the pictures, but the quality makes it hard to get a good grasp of details -- it seems to be a well made carrying case, probably early 1900's. Again not a lot of value but a lot of fun. The size, squareness and purpose of it makes it unique in its own right. Perhaps others on this forum could help speculate what it may have once held. Thanks for letting us have a look and good luck with your decision on its use!
