Not blue and no roses.. but there is a bit of blue on it and it is floral. *LOL* It is just over 6 inches across and extremely thin and light. There is an impressed mark on the back that I haven't yet been able to decipher or photograph well enough to post. This is just one of those pieces that makes me smile when I look at it. It's such a clean, fresh pattern I'd like to know who made it and when. I hope to post the marks if I can get a photo that allows them to be seen on the stark white of the back of this plate. I'm hoping it is familiar to someone.

Stalks, buds, tendrils and leaves are painted with exceptional skill!, and I love the blank and colors, too! Very feminine, but not too precious. Most beautiful! miKKo

Thank all for the love! And thanks to inky and miKKo for your comments. So miKKo, do you have any ideas about the blank? It's very thin, translucent and light. I'm still working on making something out of the impressed mark on the back with little luck as yet.

Hi, chinablue. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue on the blank name, porcelain firm, or the painter. Some observations/impressions. Blank: possibly Rococo Victorian era or slightly beyond? (Notice the "C" curves, flourishes, and dots on rim.) Possibly French or one of the German-speaking countries? Czechoslovakian? Danish? No, I don't think it's Danish, but! Stark white porcelain is a great clue - it rules out Limoges, which has a slightly greyish cast - or does it? Thin is a great clue, too. Some very thin porcelain has been produced by Germany, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Ireland, Japan, and China. Who knows which other countries? (We all know I'm no expert!) I don't think that this is Irish, Japanese, or Chinese. Painting. The gold accents have some small 'imperfections'; yet the stalks, tendrils, and leaves are painted with exceptional skill!!! Daisies are uncommon in French porcelain. More likely to find them in Germany - Bavaria, for instance. The painted design is quite translucent in places, and the blue/lavender area is bleeding into daisy petals. It looks like the artist began to accent the plate with the blue, ran into problems, and decided to leave well enough alone. That sounds bad, but I don't mean it to be. I notice the bleed of the blue because I used to paint and am very critical. It is an imperfection, but the leaves, tendrils, and stalks are painted with such excellence that I completely overlook these other imperfections and MARVEL at them. I don't know what to think of this piece - I mean, it's a mystery to me. I think that it is very beautiful, and very fine! I also think it's made to be a cabinet piece because the design, I opine, would be rather susceptible to fork and knife damage. I think that some 'layperson' (i.e., amateur lady painter) might have purchased this beautiful blank and decorated it herself, something that was very common with Limoges, though based on your assertion that the porcelain is stark white, I don't think that this is Limoges. Whoever painted this was a highly skilled painter, but the bloopers make me question whether she did this professionally. On the other hand, we see no signature, which is PERHAPS uncommon in amateur china painting. (I say "perhaps", because I am certainly no expert.)...I think that your chances of discovering the name of the blank pattern without discovering the porcelain firm are about as slim as your house being struck by lightning within the week. If this is was painted by an amateur painter, I think that your chances of finding the painted pattern are about equal to Jimbo's running the 220 meter dash in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Ref finding the name of the porcelain blank if your painter was an amateur: If this was a blank sold to amateur painters, then you might find the blank on other items by the same porcelain firm on auction sites, e.g., Ebay, but I think it would be a hard hunt and that your chances of success would be slim. It will be necessary to decipher the firm's mark to advance, I think. : D miKKo

Thanks to everyone for the love, and purpledog for the comment and love. Thank you scandi, he's doing better every day.. which makes me a lot happier and better too! :-)
    8. chinablue chinablue, 12 years ago
Thanks scandi! He had the staples taken out of his hard head yesterday so that made him much more comfortable. Now just a little more time for bone healing and he should be all better. :-)

miKKo, you make some really good points about this plate. I've had some of those thoughts myself. Are you a mind reader or mystic of some sort!? I believe if I find out anything it will be matching the embossed design to a piece that is marked. THAT is one route I hadn't thought of pursuing, so thank you for that idea. This may be one that ends up being an unknown but loved piece.
As for Jimbo in the 220 meter dash in the 2012 Summer Olympics comment... now THAT gave me a great and much needed laugh! I can see him now.. strapped into his figure 8 collarbone harness, his arm in a sling, limping along trying not to move his upper body...Do you think that maybe he can still do the speed walking if he can get past security with all his apparatus? :-)

Yoo Hoo miKKo.. or anyone that likes to ID china. I found a plate while looking for something else and thought to myself "i've seen that before". Then I checked the plate I have posted here. I think I may have found what might at least be a member of the same plate family. I'd appreciate it if someone with no prejudice would have a look and see if my plate posted here on CW could be related to the plate I found at this link:

Thanks for taking the time to check it for me! ;-)

Bingo! I think that you might well be on to something. Found plate exhibited significant similarities to your own, so I conducted a Google images search with the firm's name and a photo of your own plate, and I garnered images of a number of plates similiar in some respects to yours. Same palette and very similar 'flavor' of molded motifs and treatments (e.g., fadeouts, tenuous stems, placement of image on plate, gilding). Besides the plate that you found on vintagecountrycottage, one in particular seized my eye, for it featured daisies and used the same colors. However, the item - originally on Etsy - was no longer available. Here's the page with Google image results. How terribly exciting. (And no, I'm not prejudiced here. Sometimes I play cheerleader, but when something is really fine, I am very tough on it. : )

(By the way, chinablue, you probably didn't see my message, but do you use Duke's mayonnaise? Thanks!)

Are you warning Jimbo so that he can start training for the 220 dash?
    14. chinablue chinablue, 12 years ago
Thanks for the info and for taking a look. It just caught my eye when I saw it and thought I'd see if you or anyone else thought it was a possibility. I haven't told Jimbo he'll need to start his training yet, but I think you're right, he may should be warned!
I haven't seen a post of yours about mayo, but I DO use Dukes! *LOL* You can't live in the south and eat tomato sandwiches without Dukes mayonnaise! So, fill me in.. how did you end up with a comment about Dukes?! :-)
    15. miKKoChristmas11 miKKoChristmas11, 12 years ago
Hi, chinablue! My pleasure. RE the mayo: There's a not-so-nice clip on Southern women. Supposed to be an affectionate spoof, but there's a lot of cussing. I thought it was disgusting when I first viewed it, but then I thought that if Scandi could ignore the cussing and the two suggestive moments, it would be a nice window on what a Southern woman might encounter on any given day. I am proud to be a Southerner, and proud of Southern traditions. I love good mayo, and one of the Southern ladies in the clip turns up her nose and remarks, "She didn't use Dukes!" I understand that feeling so well. (We don't have Duke's here; Hellman's is the premium brand. It is very fine on a tomato sandwich. Economize on everything else, but not the mayo!) And I wanted Scandi to know that there was at least one authentic point in the clip. Thanks so much. : )
    16. chinablue chinablue, 12 years ago
I haven't heard of it, much less seen it. But I can tell you that *I* can tell when someone doesn't use DUKES! *LOL*
    17. miKKoChristmas11 miKKoChristmas11, 12 years ago
Thank you, dear chinablue. Scandi will be tickled by your comment. The clip isn't worth watching really, or I’d supply the link. There’s only a handful of characteristics that I suspect you might share with the actors in this clip, and you have NONE of the off-putting characteristics. In case you happen to come across this clip-that-is-going-viral, here's what I thought could or might correspond to yourself. You might have a bit of a drawl, and you will be courteous! You might use the phrase "Bless her heart!" You might make a lot of casseroles, and you might use Duke's mayonnaise. You probably wear your very best clothes to church. And, finally, Jimbo might go hunting, fall out of his deer stand, and have to be taken to the hospital. None of the negative stereotypes apply to yourself. Thanks again! Will tell Scandi now. Regards, mad miKKo

Hi, chinablue. I tried to enlarge the 'now missing' Etsy plate that appeared on the page of Google images. I did enlarge it on my laptop, and though I lost clarity, I could apprehend the same palette, similar placement on page, same flower, and a fade-out that might be characteristic of your artist. Here's a link to the page. When you get there, you can copy the photo and work with it in your browser. Best wishes!
